Area Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism made him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
