19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after that period of 2023.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one different tournaments.
"For the first time I am participating in a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in Halle previously this season.
His defensive play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to play at the elite level was over.
Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to push for a third set.
He saved four early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
